Reading a validation report
What the grade means and what to fix first.
I'm Daniel Carlman. This episode: how to read a report from DPP Agent's validator.
The validator is at dppagent.com/validate. It is free, with no sign-in. Paste the address of a passport, or its JSON.
The report gives two numbers. Fields: what the passport contains, measured against a field list. That gives the letter. System conformance: how the passport is delivered, each check tied to a clause in an EN standard.
The field score is weighted. Required fields carry 70 of the 100 points, optional fields 30.
Then the letter: 90 and up is an A, 75 a B, 60 a C. All three mean every required field is present. If even one is missing, the passport gets at most a D, however high the score. Below 40 is an F.
System conformance checks the plumbing. Are the identifier and the operator ID in recognised schemes? Can the identifier be resolved from a QR code? Does the server return JSON when a machine asks? Are the header attributes there, and a backup host? Each check passes, partly passes, or fails.
What counts as required depends on the list you compare against: by default a base list drawn from the Ecodesign Regulation, for a battery the Battery Regulation list. You can switch.
What to fix first? One: missing required fields, they hold you at D or below. Two: if your server does not return JSON, fix that. Without it, the validator cannot read your data directly, and its field results are not a reliable check. Three: optional fields, to move up from C.
I'm Daniel. That's all for now.
